    HISTORY/MARKS:
This pottery began in 1888 by George Thomas Mountford at the Alexander Pottery on Wolfe Street in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK and was acquired by Ashley Myott, Son & Company upon Mountford’s death in 1897.  Ashley had been apprenticed to Mountford since 1895.  At the age of 19 in 1897, he became manager of Alexander Pottery.  The name Myott, Son & Co. was used from 1898 with incorporation in 1942.  It was known as a manufacturer of good quality, medium priced tableware and ornamental earthenware.  A fire in 1949 destroyed the records of the business including its pattern books.  The mark on this piece was used 1959-1976 as cited in Michael Perry’s A Handbook of British Pottery Manufacturers 1900-2010.
