Katharsis Media (an Albuquerque, NM non-profit) has brought together a diverse group of 44 local artists who worked together to create a Puzzle Piece Mural.
Artists were selected to ensure that the mural represents a diverse population representative of the rich and diverse heritage of Albuquerque. Thirteen of the artists are high school students who represent one of each of the city's high school districts.
The mural, which is shaped as a bird with a map of Albuquerque drawn into the design, is symbolic of the idea that each piece is unique and different but works together to give meaning and life to the whole.
The mural consists of 48 unique puzzle pieces created by 44 different artists. The artists worked together to craft their individual pieces through words, poems, and a variety of visual art mediums.
Individual pieces are being sold to raise funds for scholarships to visual and performing arts classes and performances in community theatre and art centers across the city.
The mural will be unveiled at the ABQ Artwalk on July 9 at the Kress Building from 5-9 and then on display there
until the conclusion of the online on
August 8. The Kress Building is located at 416 Central Avenue SW.
